Principal's Report

Dear Families,

STEELINE CHRISTMAS FAMILY PICNIC

Well done to the P&F for running and organising what was a fantastic social event last Friday evening. The musical performances were amazing, with many of the students involved in Andrew Wheeler’s At-School Music tutoring program taking to the stage to show-off their skills. The sausages and games were a hit, with the weather turning it on for a relaxing and celebratory occasion. Of course, it was all topped off by the arrival of Santa and the Wallington CFA, who we cannot thank enough for attending and handing out gifts to the children in attendance. Thank you to everyone who helped on the night! Please see the photos in the Parents & Friends section below.

YEAR 6 GRADUATION

On Monday evening it was my pleasure to lead the Year 6 students and families in celebrating our class of 2024! Congratulations to all students for their achievements over their Primary school years. It was inspiring to hear from all the students as they presented their graduation speeches, reflecting on their time at Wallington Primary School. We wish the Year 6 students well as they transition to the next phase of their schooling and thank them for their contributions to Wallington over the years. Thank you to all staff who volunteered their time to ensure the evening ran smoothly and to the P&F for donating the graduation gifts and graduation leaves.

First school day of 2025 for students

Holiday Building Works

A reminder that building works will continue over the holidays, with demolition of B Block as well as ramp and OHS upgrades around the school occurring throughout January. The demolition is due to take place between 13th January and 22nd January and no one should be onsite during these works.

2025 BOOK PACKS – LATE ORDERS THROUGH KOOKABURRA

One final reminder that late orders can still be placed through Kookaburra, though unfortunately these will incur a late fee as they will need to be delivered individually to home addresses.

Please note: 2025 Curriculum Contributions are not the same as Book Packs. Curriculum Contributions (see Newsfeed item, ‘2025 Voluntary Contributions’, 29th November) play a vital role in our ability to deliver programs of the highest quality. These contributions directly enhance and enrich our teaching and learning programs across the curriculum, including STEM, Art, PE, and First Nations Studies.

As our School Council President reported last week to the school community, Government School funding does not provide for the items listed in our 2025 Parent Payment Policy, but we feel these additional resources are vital for us to deliver the enhanced quality of education we aim to provide at Wallington PS. Whether or not we receive enough voluntary contributions, the school will either need to pay for the resources, risking a budget deficit, or will not be able to offer the resources at all. If contributions are not received, it limits our capacity to commit to these additional resources and ultimately impacts the quality of our program as well as our financial health and the long-term viability of providing such resources. Please see our website for more information. Again, we completely understand that families may not be able to commit fully to the recommended amounts, however we are truly grateful for any contributions that can be made. Voluntary contributions can be paid at any time through the year via Compass. We cannot thank you enough for your support.

2024 THANK YOU

Finally, as we come to the end of an incredible year, I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone in the school community for their support, dedication and generosity this year. To the staff, for their commitment and enthusiasm in embracing a fresh perspective while supporting each other and collaborating towards a shared aim of continual improvement of practice. To the students, for the passion, curiosity and joy they bring to the school every day. And to the Wallington families, for their kindness, respect and cooperation in developing and sustaining strong partnerships between home and school to best enhance the effectiveness of our academic and wellbeing programs.

It has been an absolute privilege working with you all throughout the year. Together, we have achieved so much, and I am so excited about the future as we continue working toward our shared vision of fostering an inclusive community where students feel a sense of belonging, identity, and purpose, growing into engaged and connected contributors to society.

Thank you once again for your contributions this year. Wishing you all a safe, relaxing, and well-earned break. I look forward to another productive and fun-filled year in 2025!
